Le Marche is located in the central part of Italy and is still largely undiscovered by mass tourism. Le Marche offers the same beautiful hilly landscapes as Tuscany with charming villages. An environment to relax and enjoy the beauty of the country and the art and culture of this province.
Le Marche has a diverse landscape, in the west the 200 km long coastline is mainly flat. In the center you will find rolling hills with vineyards, wheat fields and sunflower fields. In the east of the province there are the high peaks of the Apennines, the backbone of Italy. Le Marche is all about an authentic and honest way of life. Local crafts and businesses are honored as much as possible and are passed on from generation to generation.
Le Marche has many local family-run vineyards where you are welcome to taste the wines. The Rosso Conero and Verdicchio wines, among others, are known and loved. If you like beer more than wine, then there is good news. In Italy there are more and more small breweries that brew delicious types of beer. Vecchi Maestri can book a wine or beer tasting for you.
Do you want to exchange the swimming pool of Vecchi Maestri Bed & Breakfast for the beach and the sea for a day? The nearest beaches are those of the towns of Marotta and Senigallia, at 33 km. Here you will find miles of velvety soft sandy beach where you can rent a sun bed and umbrella or find a place for your own towel at the public free areas of the beach.
The most beautiful beach in Le Marche is located just south of Ancona, in the nature park of Monte Conero and is 81 km. from Vecchi Maestri. It is certainly worthwhile to drive a little further for this gem. The coast around Monte Conero is truly magical. The white chalk cliffs stand out against the clear blue water and there are beautiful white beaches. Several beaches in this area can be reached by car or on foot and some only by boat. With a rented boat / canoe, or by booking an excursion on the ferry, you can go to Le Due Sorelle (the two sisters). These are two rocks in the sea that protrude proudly above the water.
When you want to go shopping, go to Senigallia. A lively city with squares, many shops and pleasant terraces for a drink or meal. Unique is the oval market square, called Foro Annonaro, from the nineteenth century. If the sun gets too much you can walk in the shade at the Portico Erolani, a colonnade with no fewer than 126 beautiful arches where you can find shops, bars and eateries. When the shops close at noon (from approximately 12:00 to 4:00 pm) you can enjoy an extensive lunch at one of the many restaurants. In the late afternoon you can continue shopping or walk to the beach to enjoy an aperitif at a beach bar.
Experience the calm daily rhythm in the hilltop villages that have kept their old charm. The following villages are worth a visit near Vecchi Maestri B&B:
Loretello, Corinaldo, Mondavio, Piticchio, Fratte Rosa, Barchi.
There are also plenty of possibilities for art and culture lovers. Highly recommended is Galleria Nazionale delle Marche in Urbino. This museum is located in the fifteenth-century Palazzo Ducale. You will definitely not get bored and don't forget to view Federico da Montefeltro's small study with its beautiful inlaid wood panels.
If your head is full of all the impressions of the artworks in this Palazzo, settle down on a terrace in Urbino, for example that of Caffè Campari or enjoy a delicious Italian ice cream.
There is plenty of choice in outdoor activities in the beautiful hills and mountains of Le Marche. Road and mountain bike cycling is very popular in the region. Nature Park Monte Cucco is recommended for hiking and mountain biking. But do you want to go more extreme, go paragliding above the mountains and forests. Even if you don't want to do something active, a drive to Monte Cucco will give you beautiful panoramic views.
Nature Park Monte Conero and Parco San Bartolo are recommended for those who want to be active closer to the coast. There are walking and cycling routes for different levels. And after this activity you can cool down in the sea or return to Vecchi Maestri and take a dip in the pool there.
Another gem in the vicinity of Vecchi Maestri B&B is the Gola di Furlo, the gorge of Furlo, which is located in the nature reserve with the same name. It is easily accessible by car. Here you can hike, bike or rent a canoe to go in the water of the gorge. High rocks, called the Marmitte dei Giganti, with a river in the depths have been formed in millions of years by the flowing water.
The Frasassi caves were discovered in 1971. Now you can walk here among the stalactites and stalagmites. The Abisso Ancona is special, an underground hall of up to 200 meters high. The Caves of Frasassi are well worth a visit.
Close to the Frasassi Caves you can find the temple of Valadier, in Genga. The visual contrast between the 1828 neoclassical architecture of the temple and the roughness of nature's rocks makes it special.
